In July of this year I was invited to Knockando Wool Mill, to see my winning design for the New Woven Textile Design award 2017 being put into production as both scarves and blankets. It was such a fantastic experience and a great opportunity to see the design coming to life on the looms.
After an hours flight from Bristol Airport I landed in Inverness. I’ve only been to Scotland twice in my life, and both times were spent in Glasgow. One for a University interview at the GSoA and the next for the awards night, where I won this amazing opportunity! So Inverness, a whole three more hours by train from Glasgow felt like a long old way from home!
After an hours drive from the airport, across the stunning highlands and down narrow lanes, we arrived at the Mill…

The Design was from my ‘Devon Seasons’ collection. Each design from this collecting was inspired by the ever changing colour pallets, textures and patters formed in Devons field systems and stunning landscape, during spring/summer 2016/17.

Getting the chance to meet the amazing people behind the scenes at Knockando was fantastic, its so inspiring to see the passion put into making this Mill run!
Both scarves and Blankets have been woven using my design, its amazing seeing my original design scaled up! The whole experience of getting to see my own design being woven on looms that aren’t powered by my own hands was the most exciting thing and knowing that people across the country are going to be buying a design with my name on it is just a dream come true!
This has been the most exciting, rewarding and positive journey for me as a new designer. I cannot thank everyone involved enough for creating such a fantastic opportunity and for making a dream become a reality to see my designs made into products.

I received the best package the other day! Both a scarf and a blanket from the ‘Devon seasons’ collection. Finally getting so see the finished products is amazing, and to touch and see them in the flesh is even more amazing!
